We Found the Messiest Thing to Do in Maleny—and It Was So Much Fun

Image
When most people think of Maleny , they think of scenic views, cafés, and hinterland drives. We ended up in a blacklit room covered in neon paint, throwing colour at each other—and it was well worth the drive! I was looking for fun things to do during “birthday month” for myself when my friend reposted an ad for Messy Glow Co on Facebook. I had already tried the Splatter and Splash Paint Room Experience at DIY Invasion, which is similar, and we loved it there. I hadn’t blogged about it though, as it doesn’t accept Companion Cards. This place does! What Messy Glow Co actually is At Messy Glow Co , you can let your inner child (or actual child) go wild with ultraviolet paints on the walls, floors, yourself, each other, or on a canvas you can purchase for an extra cost. Protective gear is provided if you don’t want to get too messy. There are also headphones available for those with sensory needs, as the drum can be quite loud—not to mention the laughing and squealing from everyone ha...

Aussie World

Image
Love thrills and chills for a fantastic price and excellent value?! Aussie World is really fun, and has a lot to offer for an adventurous day out with your support person. We were enticed by the Inclusion Day hosted by T he Ability Collective . I saw their post on Facebook about it, and I wanted to go and support others with disabilities. They had little stalls all set up for disabled persons selling their hand crafted goodies to buy, which was really cool. You could enter their competition for a lucky door prize, buy raffle tickets and there was even an open mic you could sign up for! Lots of ways to support. After perusing the market we headed to play some games. I thought they were reasonably priced at 3 for $20, so I decided to try them. Plus some of those cool prizes are so tempting. There are many rides there which had next to no line ups when we went, which would be awesome if you're a thrill seeker! I'm terrified of heights so my support worker and I only went on the ...

Hologram Zoo

Image
The Hologram Zoo is a walk through experience full of epic animal holograms that feel like the animals are right there with you! You go through tunnels following the marker and watch huge creatures in their natural habitat, come alive right before your eyes. The experience feels surreal and is truly a wonder to behold. We also added the Dinosaur Experience, because why not while we were there. It was amazing to see huge animals walk overhead, beside you or fly past! There was excellent audio which really made you feel a part of the ancient world of dinosaurs. At the end of your travel through the tunnels, you can also take a photo with the dinosaurs! They can then be easily downloaded directly to your phone digitally. I removed us from this photo, but we were screaming at the T-Rex. I reckon it looked more like I was yelling back at it though - haha! This place is such a fun venue to take you back in time and let your imagination run wild. You can't help but reach out, trying ...

Rage Cage Smash Rooms

Image
Had a bad day? Had a bad week? GO SMASH ALL THE THINGS!! Rage Cage Smash Rooms are so much fun to de-stress, release pent up anxiety, shout, smash and laugh. You can even take your own items if you want to smash them up too! (within reason - please see website for details). We did the twenty items for twenty minutes option. They do accept companion cards and offer free entry for your support person, they just can't smash. My support worker decided to pay and smash with me to join the fun! You can even pay extra to smash up something huge like a TV, microwave or even a guitar. You sign your waiver first, then up you go to get instructions on safety and kitted up ready to smash. Most important is keep that mask on, as there will be flying glass etc. They even had fun onesies there you could wear too which was really cool - haha! A really nice touch is you can write a message on the wall. Maybe your boss was awful that week, you had a break up or some other pain/anger you're ...

Golfers Paradise Club

Image
For something fun on my birthday weekend, we went golfing at Golfers Paradise Club ! Unfortunately they don't accept companion cards, so I just paid for my support worker to play too (or they can watch, of course!). I hired the GTS booth designed for two to three players, which was fantastic. They also have cool rooms for parties, which is awesome. You basically hit balls at a virtual screen as a driving range, or you can play a round. The price includes clubs, balls, tees and you can play rain, hail or shine! We just used one type of club cause we had no idea what we were doing, which was fine - haha! It was so much fun, and we got excited being able to hit the ball even 20+ metres. Meanwhile, players next to us had their own golf clubs and were hitting 200+ metres! We thought, "Oh well, we're good comedic relief!" You can pay for coaching lessons as well if you're so inclined. The system keeps track of your scores on the screen. We just scored as one player ...
