Kumbartcho Sanctuary

Image
Nestled in the heart of Eatons Hill, Kumbartcho Sanctuary offers a peaceful escape into nature with winding trails, vibrant wildlife, and tranquil scenery. The sanctuary features a butterfly garden and a fairy garden, which are sure to delight little kids. You can even send the fairies some mail - a charming touch! Moving on from the enchanting fairy garden, Frog Hollow is another delightful spot to explore. If you love frogs, they have little ponds with different species of frogs. I had to laugh that the area is fenced. The fenced Frog Hollow is an interesting feature, though I couldn't help but wonder if the frogs might venture out to find new homes. The Sanctuary also has a nursery, which sells a lot of native plants for great prices. Perfect for if you are a green thumb, you can get some retail therapy in. We tried many times to spot a koala, but had no luck. There's definitely some furry friends somewhere, going by the marks we found on this tree though! There was lov...

Rage Cage Smash Rooms

Image
Had a bad day? Had a bad week? GO SMASH ALL THE THINGS!! Rage Cage Smash Rooms are so much fun to de-stress, release pent up anxiety, shout, smash and laugh. You can even take your own items if you want to smash them up too! (within reason - please see website for details). We did the twenty items for twenty minutes option. They do accept companion cards and offer free entry for your support person, they just can't smash. My support worker decided to pay and smash with me to join the fun! You can even pay extra to smash up something huge like a TV, microwave or even a guitar. You sign your waiver first, then up you go to get instructions on safety and kitted up ready to smash. Most important is keep that mask on, as there will be flying glass etc. They even had fun onesies there you could wear too which was really cool - haha! A really nice touch is you can write a message on the wall. Maybe your boss was awful that week, you had a break up or some other pain/anger you're ...

Golfers Paradise Club

Image
For something fun on my birthday weekend, we went golfing at Golfers Paradise Club ! Unfortunately they don't accept companion cards, so I just paid for my support worker to play too (or they can watch, of course!). I hired the GTS booth designed for two to three players, which was fantastic. They also have cool rooms for parties, which is awesome. You basically hit balls at a virtual screen as a driving range, or you can play a round. The price includes clubs, balls, tees and you can play rain, hail or shine! We just used one type of club cause we had no idea what we were doing, which was fine - haha! It was so much fun, and we got excited being able to hit the ball even 20+ metres. Meanwhile, players next to us had their own golf clubs and were hitting 200+ metres! We thought, "Oh well, we're good comedic relief!" You can pay for coaching lessons as well if you're so inclined. The system keeps track of your scores on the screen. We just scored as one player ...

Strathpine Bowl

Bowling is not just a game; it’s a social experience, a delightful outing, and a chance to engage in light exercise. For individuals with disabilities and their support workers, bowling presents an inclusive environment where everyone can participate and enjoy themselves. The ambiance is relaxed, and the rules are simple. You don’t need to be a pro to have a great time. With its casual setting, bowling allows you to engage without the pressures found in some other activities. Bowling is also very affordable compared to other recreational activities too. Strathpine Bowl offers discounted games for people with disabilities and their support person - just $6 per game each! This is a fantastic deal. I found it so reasonable, I paid for my support worker so I had someone to play against. Bowling venues have made significant strides to ensure all individuals can enjoy the game. Strathpine Bowl includes wheelchair access to the lanes, special bowling ramps to help direct your ball, bumper bo...
