Wings, Whimsy & Wonder: Our Day at Faeries & Folklore

Post featured image

There’s something truly special about stepping away from everyday life and into a world filled with magic, imagination, and wonder. That's exactly what we experienced at Faeries & Folklore at Pine Rivers Showground in Lawnton — where fairy wings, mythical creatures, and fantasy enthusiasts transformed the grounds into an enchanting realm straight from a storybook.

A Magical First Impression

From the moment we arrived, we were surrounded by colour, creativity, and excitement. Visitors of all ages embraced the spirit of the event, with many dressed as faeries, elves, woodland creatures, witches, and characters inspired by folklore and fantasy.

The atmosphere was welcoming and vibrant, with every corner of the market offering something new to discover. It felt as though we had stepped through a hidden portal into a magical kingdom.

Incredible Costumes Everywhere

One of the highlights of the day was seeing the incredible effort attendees put into their costumes. Delicate fairy wings shimmered in the sunlight, elaborate gowns swept through the crowds, and mythical creatures roamed the grounds, bringing fantasy to life.

Whether professionally crafted or lovingly handmade, every costume added to the immersive experience and created countless photo opportunities throughout the day.

Exploring the Magical Market Stalls

The market stalls were packed with unique treasures and handcrafted creations. From sparkling jewellery and fantasy-inspired accessories to artwork, crystals, and magical keepsakes, there was something to catch everyone's eye.

It was wonderful to meet talented local creators and browse the wide range of products celebrating folklore, mythology, and fantasy culture. The hardest part was deciding what to take home!

I may not have brought home too many purchases, but I certainly left with a plethora of business cards and QR codes so I could follow many of the creators on social media.

Entertainment and Enchantment

The dancers and workshops helped bring the event to life, creating an atmosphere that felt both festive and magical. Visitors could book to make bracelets, flower crowns, terrariums, D & D sessions or even get a henna tattoo. There was a cosplay competition both days too.

Personally, I think a little more entertainment throughout the day would have been fantastic, especially while people were enjoying lunch. My only other suggestion for next year would be to add a few themed prop stations around the picnic areas for fun photo opportunities.

That said, this was the very first Faeries & Folklore event, which makes what they achieved even more impressive. Hopefully, it returns next year bigger and even better.

A Community Like No Other

One of the most memorable parts of the event was the sense of community. Everyone shared a common love of fantasy, creativity, and imagination, making the atmosphere incredibly friendly and inclusive.

Strangers complimented costumes, posed for photos together, and exchanged stories about their favourite fantasy worlds. It was a reminder of how events like these bring people together through shared passions.

We found ourselves chatting about Batman, Grogu, and Pride inclusion while simply waiting in line to enter — which perfectly sums up the welcoming and diverse crowd that attended.

Our Favourite Moments

Some of our favourite moments included admiring the spectacular costumes, discovering talented local artisans, trying very hard not to spend too much money, capturing magical photos together, and simply soaking in the enchanting atmosphere.

I especially loved spending time with my loved ones and support worker, sitting under a shady tree and feeling grateful to be out in the community enjoying such a fun and unique event.

Would We Go Again?

Absolutely.

Faeries & Folklore at Pine Rivers Showground offered a wonderful escape into a world of magic, creativity, and imagination. Whether you're a lifelong fantasy fan, a lover of folklore, or simply looking for a unique family day out, this event delivers a truly memorable experience.

We left with beautiful photos, a few magical treasures, and plenty of wonderful memories.

If you ever get the chance to attend, don't forget your wings, your sense of adventure, and your love of all things magical.

Until next time, may your path be sprinkled with fairy dust and filled with wonder!

πŸ‘₯ Crowds

The showgrounds were spacious, with plenty of areas to rest and socialise. The markets were lovely when we first arrived early in the day, but they became very crowded as the event went on.

Personally, I did experience a panic attack and had to ask people to let me through so I could leave the crowded area. I felt stuck, unable to keep moving, and somewhat trapped by the density of the crowd.

For anyone who experiences anxiety or sensory overwhelm, I would strongly recommend arriving early or visiting later in the day when the crowds have thinned out a little.
