From Lookout to Latte: A Relaxed Mt Mee Morning at Pit Stop Café

Image
Some mornings call for something quiet and unhurried. Instead of rushing from one thing to the next, we headed up to Mt Mee for a slow start to the day — fresh air first, breakfast second. I was really in need of some grounding  and wanted a gentle reset for my nervous system as we headed into the new year. It was the kind of outing that didn’t require much planning — just a willingness to take things easy and enjoy where we were. Exactly what I needed. First Stop: Dahmongah Lookout Park Our morning began at Dahmongah Lookout Park, a peaceful spot that feels instantly calming the moment you arrive. The lookout offers wide, open views and plenty of space to pause, breathe and take it all in. There’s minimal walking required, making it an easy stop if you’re wanting something low-effort but still rewarding. The gentle sounds of birds, the breeze through the trees and the open sky made this the perfect place to slow down and ease into the day. It’s ideal for sitting quietly, taking ph...

Festive, Fierce & Hilarious: Hey Felicia! Christmas Special at the Sit Down Comedy Club

Image
The festive season can be loud, busy and a little overwhelming at times, so this year I was craving something different. Instead of carols, shopping centres or big events, I chose laughter. A night out seeing the Hey Felicia! Christmas Special  at Sit Down Comedy Club  felt like the perfect way to do Christmas without the chaos — and it turned out to be exactly what I needed! The Vibe Inside Sit Down Comedy Club Sit Down Comedy Club has a cosy, intimate feel that immediately puts you at ease. The seating is close enough to feel connected to the show, but not so packed that it feels uncomfortable. The room buzzed with anticipation, that gentle hum of people ready to laugh, relax and switch off for a while. Whether it was groups of friends or possibly co-workers, you could see everyone was in great spirits, and we found everyone to be really friendly. There’s something comforting about a venue where the focus is simply on being present — no pressure, no rushing, just settling in...

Christmas gnomes have now become one of my favourite little holiday crafts because they’re simple, affordable and so easy to customise. Whether you’re crafting solo, with your support worker, or enjoying a quiet creative afternoon, these tiny gnome friends bring a cosy bit of magic to the season. Here’s how to make your own charming Christmas gnomes with just a few tools and a ball of air-dry clay! A Quick Look at the Supplies Most of my supplies were affordable finds from Kmart, and you might already have some of these at home. For this project I used: Air Dry Clay ( Kmart ) Clay tools ( Kmart ) Paint set ( Kmart ) Paint brushes ( Kmart ) Palette set ( Kmart ) Quick-Dry Clear Varnish ( Bunnings ) A white paint marker (from a $2 shop) Baking paper (to help stop sticking) Placemat that's washable to work on ( Kmart ) ...

Why Op Shopping Makes the Perfect Inclusive Outing (Plus Our Best Finds!)

Image
Op shopping is an awesome inclusive outing — relaxed, affordable, and great for sensory-friendly browsing! It’s easy to tailor the experience to your mood, energy level, and support needs. This makes for a wonderful day out with your support worker and in the community. Plus, you’re supporting great charities while you shop, and you can donate items you’ve been meaning to clear out. We were a little short on time due to other errands and appointments, but we still managed to sneak in a few shops before our shift together ended. It was SO worth it! Bonding Beyond the Bargains Shopping together is not only fun — it helps build a great rapport with your support worker. Browsing together, sharing fashion inspiration, pointing out hobbies or crafts you spot in-store, and laughing over nostalgic items creates a relaxed and enjoyable connection. We kept finding things we hadn’t seen in years. Memories sparked like, “Oh, we had this when we were little!” or “We used to have this punch bowl!” I...
