Tiny Tombs & Spooky Paints: Crafting Mini Coffins for Halloween

Image
Last week I got into more crafting for Halloween - it was so much fun for such little expense! I love a good browse around Kmart and found these awesome mini coffins for just $4. You can also buy a larger one for only $8 - what a bargain! Getting Into the Spooky Spirit There's so many fun and creative ways you could decorate them - paint, photos, newspaper clippings, stickers, diamond art or even some of the fantastic Halloween craft items out at $2 shops like spiders or skeletons. I wasn't sure what I was going to use it for, I just knew I wanted one - haha! I had a lot of paint and materials leftover from the Witch Hat Luminaries , so I didn't need much else to get started. What You’ll Need Most of my supplies were budget finds from Kmart, and you might already have some of these at home. For this project I used: Small mini coffin ( Kmart ) Paint set ( Kmart ) Paint brushes ( Kmart ) Palette set ( Kmart ) Baking paper (to help stop sticking and separate sections) Plac...

Crafting Halloween Magic: DIY Clay Witch Hats

Image
Yesterday I got into the spooky spirit with a fun hands-on craft day — making Halloween witch hats out of clay! The table was covered in sculpting tools, bits of clay, and plenty of concentration as we shaped our own mini magical masterpieces. From curling the hat brims just right to adding little stars and moons for decoration, it was the perfect mix of creativity and Halloween fun. Why Witch Hats? Our goal was to make beautiful witch hats that could sit over a tealight, casting a soft, flickering glow. I chose this project because Halloween is coming up — and my sister loves all things witchy! I even made some delicious snacks to enjoy while we sculpted and painted the day away. Getting Started I’d never made these before, so I roughly followed a YouTube tutorial . The video used kiln-fired clay, but we swapped it for air dry clay, which worked wonderfully. We originally wanted to use polymer clay, but the brand I bought crumbled and was unusable — a good reminder to always test ...

Candle Making at Genki Arts & Crafts

Image
Yesterday I had the chance to try something new - diving into the world of candle making at Genki Arts & Crafts hosted by Wick and Sip ! The room was filled with the soft scent of melted wax and essential oils, and I quickly discovered that creating a candle is just as calming as lighting one. From choosing fragrances to pouring the wax into the glass, the whole experience felt creative and relaxing - and I left with not only a few handmade candles, but also a new appreciation for the craft. The class was a little further away than our usual outings, but we timed it perfectly - the traffic was smooth and the drive was peaceful. Located in Upper Coomera, the trip took us past Dreamworld and then inland, where we enjoyed stunning views of mountains and lush green paddocks. Finding the studio was easy (with a little GPS help of course - haha) and parking was conveniently right behind the building. We were warmly welcomed by our teacher into a bright, spacious and spotless studio....

Supernova Brisbane is coming!

Image
Supernova is a fun day celebrating all things nerdy, geeky, movies, TV shows, gaming, and pop culture - and the best part is, it’s FREE for carers/companion card holders when attending with a paid ticket! We went back in 2023 and had an absolute blast. It is coming up again this year from November 7th-9th and tickets are already on sale. As a massive Star Wars nerd, I was thrilled to hear that the 501st Legion would be there. I’ve seen them cosplay many times before, but it’s always a highlight for me. I’m also a big gamer, so spotting people dressed up as video game characters was incredible. The creativity and effort that goes into these cosplays is just amazing! There was so much to see and do at Supernova. I caught some fantastic panels where stars shared their experiences. I especially enjoyed listening to Ben Prendergast, who played Tyr in God of War , and Katee Sackhoff, who plays Bo-Katan in The Mandalorian . If your budget allows, you can also grab a photo or autograph from ...
