Candle Making at Genki Arts & Crafts

Image
Yesterday I had the chance to try something new - diving into the world of candle making at Genki Arts & Crafts hosted by Wick and Sip ! The room was filled with the soft scent of melted wax and essential oils, and I quickly discovered that creating a candle is just as calming as lighting one. From choosing fragrances to pouring the wax into the glass, the whole experience felt creative and relaxing - and I left with not only a few handmade candles, but also a new appreciation for the craft. The class was a little further away than our usual outings, but we timed it perfectly - the traffic was smooth and the drive was peaceful. Located in Upper Coomera, the trip took us past Dreamworld and then inland, where we enjoyed stunning views of mountains and lush green paddocks. Finding the studio was easy (with a little GPS help of course - haha) and parking was conveniently right behind the building. We were warmly welcomed by our teacher into a bright, spacious and spotless studio....

Supernova Brisbane is coming!

Image
Supernova is a fun day celebrating all things nerdy, geeky, movies, TV shows, gaming, and pop culture - and the best part is, it’s FREE for carers/companion card holders when attending with a paid ticket! We went back in 2023 and had an absolute blast. It is coming up again this year from November 7th-9th and tickets are already on sale. As a massive Star Wars nerd, I was thrilled to hear that the 501st Legion would be there. I’ve seen them cosplay many times before, but it’s always a highlight for me. I’m also a big gamer, so spotting people dressed up as video game characters was incredible. The creativity and effort that goes into these cosplays is just amazing! There was so much to see and do at Supernova. I caught some fantastic panels where stars shared their experiences. I especially enjoyed listening to Ben Prendergast, who played Tyr in God of War , and Katee Sackhoff, who plays Bo-Katan in The Mandalorian . If your budget allows, you can also grab a photo or autograph from ...

Matsuri Brisbane

Image
Matsuri Brisbane is a wonderful free festival full of culture and entertainment! Lots of great markets to browse full of Japanese crafts, clothing, food and travel information. You can also book and pay to do some workshops and classes on the day which looked fun. We went nice and early, thankfully, as it was so busy when we left. We loved the Taiko drummers performance. We have seen them before at the Sake Festival and had to see them again. The sound is amazing and feels good for the soul. I’m always so impressed! My arms would hurt so much, I’d have to quit halfway - haha . I bet it's really fun exercise. I'm not sure my neighbours or roommate would approve of me practising either though. There were plenty of K-pop performances, but they weren’t really my thing. Instead, we spent most of our time deciding which food to try. With so much variety, I’ll have to find Japanese food trucks again just to sample what I missed! I had some beef onigiri and delicious custard pawaffles...

The EKKA

Image
My support worker and I had such a fantastic time yesterday at the Ekka! I had not been since probably my late teens, so I was a little dubious how much value for money it would be now that I am in my 40's. We found so much to do and see. We really enjoyed our day immensely. Going on a Tuesday surpassed my expectations - it was much quieter than I expected. Without huge crowds, we could relax and explore at our own pace. We made our first stop at the showbag pavilion whilst it was quiet (and it was!). We could leisurely find the bags on our lists with no line up at all. We then hired a locker and set off to check out everything else on our itinerary! (I am so excited to have a Lego day with my bricks showbag) I absolutely love the My EKKA app you can download. You can add beforehand all the things you want to see and do, and at what times. You can add your showbag and rides list. I even added the cheap eats deals and where they were on the map. The inbuilt GPS will also help yo...
